Reading Lab Level 1 - $135
Using informational and literary works appropriate for the individual student reading level, comprehension strategies for pre reading, during reading and post reading will be practiced. An emphasis on skimming, predicting, accessing prior knowledge, inference skills and summarizing main ideas will be incorporated. The common core standards for citing text evidence, and analyzing author point of view and character point of view will be addressed. Fluency skills will also be practiced. Students will acquire general academic vocabulary and practice strategies to determine the meaning of words and phrases used in the text. The strategies and vocabulary will be tiered for individual student learning needs of remediation or enrichment.
This is a one-week course. A student can and is encouraged to take as many one-week sessions as desired. This course is designed for students entering grades five and six. This course is offered Session 1 and Session 3.

The strategies and vocabulary will be tiered for individual student learning needs of remediation or enrichment.

An emphasis on how particular lines of dialogue or incidents in a story propel the action and reveal aspects of a character will be incorporated. The common core standards for citing text evidence, determining themes, analyzing sentence structure, and analyzing how the author acknowledges and responds to conflicting evidence will be addressed. Students will acquire general academic vocabulary and practice strategies to determine the meaning of words and phrases used in the text. The strategies will be tiered for individual student learning needs of remediation or enrichment.

Incorporating the strategies of the Step Up to Writing Program and The Six Traits Program, writers will compose a multi-paragraph narrative, persuasive and expository piece. The common core standard of supporting a claim with relevant evidence and appropriate vocabulary will be emphasized. Writing content will be revised for sentence variety and student reflection. Students will demonstrate a command of the standard English conventions and incorporate academic and do main specific vocabulary. The tasks will be tiered to enrich individual student learning needs.
This is a one-week course. A student can and is encouraged to take as many one-week sessions as desired. This course is designed for students entering eighth grade. This course is offered Session 2 and Session 4.

Math Level 1 - $135
This course includes operations with whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages, and can be used as an introduction to high school Pre-Algebra. Students will take a pre-test to determine areas of strengths and weaknesses. With the help of the teacher and individualized materials, the student will work mainly on assessed areas of weakness.
This is a one-week course. A student can and is encouraged to take as many one-week sessions as desired. This course is designed for students entering 5th through eighth grade.

Math Level 2 - $135
The class is designed as an introduction to Pre-Algebra. Students will be given a pre-test and post-test in order to evaluate progress.
This is a one-week course. A student can and is encouraged to take as many one-week sessions as desired. This course is designed for students entering 6th or 7th grade but can be taken by any student entering grades six through eight.

Introduction to Algebra - $135
This course is designed as a review of basic arithmetic operations and as an introduction to Algebra I. The course is fast-paced and can be used as a review in preparation for students entering Algebra I in the fall. The topics of algebraic expression, real numbers, and solving one-variable equations will be explored.

Beginning Robotics - $200
This is a beginning course in robotics. We will be utilizing Lego Mindstorm kits and various Lego Robotics materials. The objective of this course is to introduce the student to basic programming as well as problem solving strategies. This course will involve students in the development, building and programming of a LEGO Mindstorm robot. Students will work hands-on in teams to design, build, program and document their progress. Topics may include motor control, gear ratios, torque, friction, sensors, timing and program loops. No experience necessary.
This is a two-week course. The course can be taken during sessions 1 and 2 (June 5-16) or during sessions 3 and 4 (June 19-30). A student can and is encouraged to take as many two-week sessions as desired.

Advanced Robotics - $200
This course covers advanced programming and hardware concepts associated with Lego Mindstorm robots. In this course, several robots are programmed to work together and with other common automation systems to increase the efficiency and throughput of industrial automation processes. Robot safety procedures and standards will be emphasized throughout the course. Students must have taken the Beginning Robotics class a previous summer or have a background in Lego Mindstorm.
This is a two-week course. The course can be taken during sessions 1 and 2 (June 5-16) or during sessions 3 and 4 (June 19-30). A student can and is encouraged to take as many two-week sessions as desired.

Web Design - $135
This course is designed for a path toward future studies in web development and design. Students will construct webpages, learn publishing techniques and further enhance their existing knowledge of computers. This course is designed for students entering grades five through ten. This class can be taken either 1st or 2nd session.
This is a two-week course. The course can be taken during sessions 1 and 2 (June 5-16) or during sessions 3 and 4 (June 19-30). A student can and is encouraged to take as many two-week sessions as desired.

Beginning Graphic Design - $135
Students learn the fundamentals of graphic design. Its terminology, tools, and working methods. Emphasis is placed on computer layout skills and their application to creative visual communication with strong emphasis on typographical technical and historical elements. In addition, students will produce and will be assessed on many projects that include creating an original layout for a newsletter, vinyl cutting, catalogue, logos and brochures as well as designing and crafting effective promotional pieces, publications and digital art.
This is a two-week course. The course can be taken during sessions 1 and 2 (June 5-16) or during sessions 3 and 4 (June 19-30). A student can and is encouraged to take as many two-week sessions as desired.

Art: Drawing and Design - $135
This is a beginning level art class that introduces the fundamentals of drawing. An emphasis will be placed on the six elements of art: line, shape/form, space, value, texture, and color. Students will also be exposed to some principles of design. Student work will include: cubism, pointillism, non-objective abstract, one and two-point perspective, color wheel, and fourth-objective abstract. Students will be using a variety of mediums: pencil, colored-pencil, ink, and paint.
This is a one-week course. A student can and is encouraged to take as many one-week sessions as desired. This camp is designed for students entering grades five through eight.

Beginning Cooking - $150
This is a great class for any fifth through eighth grade student who would like to learn some basic cooking techniques. The class will cover measuring procedures and basic cooking techniques that are used in preparing casseroles and side dishes. This is an excellent class for young people to learn their way around the kitchen and to help with meal preparation at home.
This is a one-week course. A student can and is encouraged to take as many one-week sessions as desired.

Advanced Cooking - $150
This is a great class for students who have taken the Intro to Cooking Class or have previous cooking experience at home and would like to expand on their knowledge. This class will emphasize preparing casseroles, sauces, desserts, main dishes, etc. Students should be able to measure and follow a recipe with ease. This class will introduce students to more complex recipes and detailed food preparation.
This is a one-week course. A student can and is encouraged to take as many one-week sessions as desired.

Fun Farmers Academy - $300
Do your kids love to play outside? Do they enjoy having fun with their friends and learning about plants and animals? Do they love water games. If yes, this camp is perfect for them. It will be run by Mrs. Ashley Rossi and the Garces FFA members and is packed full of awesome activities to get them excited about agriculture.
This is a one-week camp that will be held during Session 1 only (June 3-7). It will run each day from 8:00am to 2:30pm.
