About Being An Apple Distinguished School

Garces Memorial High School once again has been recognized as an Apple Distinguished School.

Originally recognized for a three-year cycle in 2018 for our commitment to digital learning and training with technology, we have been granted a second three-year cycle, which takes us through 2024. Apple Distinguished Schools are centers of innovation, leadership and educational excellence that use Apple products to inspire creativity, collaboration and critical thinking.

Our teachers are adept, forward thinking and willing to learn using technology as a tool, not only for 24/7 access to digital classrooms and content, but to inspire creativity and critical thinking within their classes. All Garces students and teachers have iPads, which are now supported by a fiber network, configured with a number of educational applications, and managed by the school. Digital curriculums made it possible for the Garces staff to seamlessly teach remotely during the COVID-19 lockdown without missing a single class period.

“Not only on the Garces campus do our students learn using technology, but they will be ahead of the curve moving on to college as most institutions of higher learning use digital learning management systems and devices that are required for students” Garces IT Director Gino Lacava said.

The selection of Garces Memorial as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our success as an innovative and compelling learning environment that engages students, teaches them to think analytically and prepares them for their future.
