The start of the 2019 season was a very successful one for the Garces girls tennis team. On the road in Turlock, the Rams defeated Rocklin, the defending Sac-Joaquin Section Division I champions, 11-1 on Monday.
Garces defeated the Thunder in all four doubles matches in the 8-4 format this is an extended version of the 6-3 regular season scoring system. The system was used on Monday to ensure all players that traveled were able to get time on the court.
The No. 1 doubles team of senior Alexsia Drulias and junior Jackie Sala, the 2018 BVarsity All-Area Doubles Team of the Year, defeated Roxana Shahi and Moah White, 8-4.
The doubles teams of Kylee Lumpias and Matea Thomas, Taylor Crider and Teresa Demler, along with Steph Mercado and Bella Etcheverria were all successful against the Thunder.
Sala, Limpias, Thomas, Crider, Mercado, Demler and Maia Cinquemani all won in single action, as well.
The lone loss for the Rams (1-0) came in the No. 1 single match as Drulias, the 2018 BVarsity Girls Tennis Player of the Year, lost 8-5 to Shahi, the 73rd-ranked girls tennis player in California.
The Rams are back in action Thursday and Friday in the SWYL vs. TRAC Challenge.
First up on Thursday is against Clovis-Buchanan at 3 p.m.
On Friday, the action begins against Visalia-Redwood at 9 a.m. and the final match is at 2 p.m. on Friday against Clovis North, the defending Central Section D-I champions.
All three matches for Garces on Thursday and Friday are at home.
