Coming out of Spring Break, Garces Memorial softball coach Kelly Olson knew the tough week ahead for his Rams was not going to be easy.
And the Rams were up for the challenge.
After defeating Visalia-Golden West 10-0 in five innings on Wednesday at home, Garces secured a sweep over Porterville-Monache, which came into the Friday double-header ranked No. 1 in the Central Section Division II playoff rankings by MaxPreps.
There is now a new pecking order.
Down 5-2 in the third, Garces scored five unanswered runs to beat the previous undefeated Marauders 7-6 in the first game.
Sophomore Taylor Crider led the way, hitting safely in all three at bats with two doubles and three RBI as Arianna Silva and Ellie Waguespack had two hits each.
In the second game, Garces (5-2) never trailed and pulled away with a four-run fourth inning in the time-limited five-inning game.
Angie Silva hit a solo home run as Jasmine Gorman had two doubles and drove in two runs and Ellie Waguespack had two hits and drove in a run.
Kami Lopez and Arianna Silva combined to pitch both games for the Rams.
Garces is on the road for three games this week with a double-header at Taft on Tuesday and a road game at Paso Robles next Saturday.
