For the second consecutive season, the Garces boys soccer team receives the top-seed in the Central Section playoffs.
After the Rams won the section’s Division V title and the CIF Southern California Regional D-V championship last season, Garces is the No. 1 seed in the D-IV playoffs that begin on Tuesday.
The Rams (21-2) capped off a perfect 10-0 record in the Southwest Yosemite League on Wednesday with a 3-0 victory at Stockdale.
The Rams receive a first round bye on Tuesday and will play the winner of No. 9 Kerman at No. 8 Arvin on Thursday. All section playoff games are scheduled for 6 p.m., but are subject to change.
Garces comes into the playoffs with a 12-game win streak while sophomore goalkeeper Palmer Bank hasn’t yielded a goal in three games and has given up just nine goals this season, including a total of three in league play.
The dynamic scoring duo of junior Alexander Halevy (26 goals, 15 assists) and senior Moises Cisneros (19 goals, 18 assists) have led one of the top offenses in the section. And now, a healthy senior Ebube Ekpemogu is back in the fold after missing half the season with a quad injury.
The 2018-19 BVarsity All-Area Player of the Year, who is signed to play next season at Cal State Bakersfield, has scored seven goals in 11 games this season.
Added with two current Player of the Year candidates in Halevy and Cisneros, the Rams continue to be the top team in Bakersfield and the favorite to win a second consecutive section championship.
