Garces boys soccer earned 2-seed in SoCal D-III regionals, earn 1st round bye

After repeating as Central Section boys soccer champions, the Garces Memorial boys soccer team is back in the CIF Southern California Regional playoffs.

The Rams (24-2) are the No. 2 seed in the D-III SoCal Regionals and earned a first round bye on Tuesday.

Garces will host the winner No. 3 La Mesa-Helix or No. 6 Norwalk on Thursday at Sam Tobias Field. The scheduled game time is 4 p.m. for all regional playoffs. 

Newhall-Hart was awarded the No. 1 seed ahead of Garces. The Indians (18-3-3) lost in the Southern Section D-III semifinals to eventual champions, Torrance-North.

Garces beat Shafter 4-0 in the Central Section D-IV championships on Feb. 21. That was a second consecutive section title for the Rams after winning the D-V title last year.

The Rams now look to repeat as regional champions. Garces defeated Pasadena-Marshall 2-0 for the SoCal D-V title a year ago.

Helix (13-3-4) defeated Sanatee-West Hills 3-1 in the San Diego Section D-II title on Saturday while Norwalk (16-5-1) lost to Hart in the in the Southern Section D-III quarterfinals.

Ticket pricing for the SoCal D-III semifinals at Sam Tobias Field on Thursday will be $9 for adults and $5 for seniors, students with ID and children.
