Over Easter Break, The Bakersfield Californian and its prep sports section BVarsity unveiled the 2019-20 Winter Sports All-Area teams, and there were plenty of Garces Memorial athletes recognized. 

Junior Alexander Halevy was named the All-Area Boys Soccer Co-Player of the Year, an honor bestowed upon the best athlete in each sport throughout Kern County.

Halevy led the Rams with 31 goals and was second on the team with 17 assists, helping to lead Garces to a second consecutive Central Section championship, beating Shafter for the Division IV title. The Rams also advanced to the CIF Southern California Regional D-III finals this season.

In total, there were seven Garces boys soccer players honored with an All-Area award. Also coaches Robbie Gouk and Hassan Halevy were also named co-coaches of the year.

Senior Moises Cisneros and sophomore twins Fletcher and Palmer Bank were both named first-team All-Area.

Junior Elijah Toppila was named second-team while senior Alejandro Garcia and Aldo Pantoja were named honorable mention. The total of seven Garces players honored was the most for any of the 29 schools with at least one player recognized in the county.

Garces girls soccer sophomore Stevie Reynolds was named All-Area honorable mention after leading the Rams in total points this season. 

In boys wrestling, Tye Monteiro was the lone freshman named first-team All-Area.

Monteiro became the first Garces wrestler to medal at state, finishing eighth at 152-pounds. 

Junior DeAndre Beldo was also named honorable mention after going 25-13 and qualifying for state.

In girls wrestling, junior Sarah Machado was named honorable mention All-Area in her first season competing in the sport. 

Junior Addisyn McMurtrey, the leading scorer in the Southwest Yosemite League, was named first-team All-Area in girls basketball. McMurtrey led the Rams with 17.9 points and 2.3 assists while also averaging 7.2 rebounds per game.

In boys basketball, four Rams were named All-Area.

Junior J.J. Uphold was named first-team after leading Garces with 12.5 points and 9.2 rebounds this season as Garces advanced to the semifinals in the D-III playoffs and won the inaugural South Yosemite Conference title. 

Senior Jack Hatten was named second-team while juniors Ipreye Egbe and Dom D’Amato were both named honorable mention.
