He graduated from St. Mary’s College with a B.S. in Chemistry and served as a Lieutenant in the US Navy for four years before joining the family business. He was the second generation owner-operator of Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary and served the Garces community and the community of Bakersfield with compassion and dedication. Her grandchildren also all attended Garces. As the owner of Wool Growers Restaurant, Mayie has been generous to the school and has donated for years to the school’s fundraisers. She has fed the Garces football teams numerous times over the years. She provided meals for the Christian Brothers and the Dominican Nuns when they were teaching at Garces. She has also been a quiet supporter of the school and many of her good deeds are known to few.

When Tom’s children began at Garces, Tom joined the school board, and shortly thereafter was elected the President of the Board. During his tenure, he brought Gala and Bingo to Garces. Judy served as a Gala chair for two years. Tom and Judy have been active supporters of the school and continue to support Garces athletics, the Garces Gala, Fall BBQ and the Monsignor Leddy Golf Tournament.
